Kolkata, Dec 17 : A 19-year-old youth killed his mother with a scythe in a West Bengal village Tuesday, suspecting her of an extra-marital affair with a neighbour, the police said.
The killing took place at Sutabecha village under Mandi Bazaar police station in South 24-Parganas district.
“Jochon Daw chopped his mother Ratna with a scythe Tuesday morning alleging that she was having an extra-marital affair with a neighbour for the past year in the absence of his father Rabi,” a police official at Mandir Bazar police station told reporters.
The officer said: “Daw, who surrendered to the police in the afternoon, said he saw Ratna returning home late Monday night from a nearby village fair with a neighbour Sukanta, who is a widower.”
“For the last one year I have been seeing the duo together at odd places. They used to behave like a couple. Whenever I asked my mother about him, she used to avoid the question. I am sure they were having an affair in the absence of my father, who works and stays in Kolkata,” Daw told the police.
“I couldn’t tolerate this in my house. There was a heated altercation between my mother and myself. She asked me to leave the house and in the heat of the moment I killed her with a scythe,” Daw said.
Neither the neighbour Sukanta nor the youth’s father Rabi were available for comment.
