NEW DELHI: The Delhi Fire Department is being “harassed” by an unidentified girl making crank calls, disturbing its control room almost every night by talking “dirty” and playing “pranks“.
The control room (which started receiving the calls in November last year) gets such calls mainly at midnight from an unknown girl, who wants to talk dirty and play pranks with the duty officer,” a senior fire official said.
Many a times, the caller would give wrong information about fire incidents, other than playing songs and dialogues from Bollywood movies in the background to disturb the men. “She also connects our call with the Police Control Room and hospitals,” the official said.
“Acting on the calls, our men reached several destinations but later realised that it was nothing but a hoax. We are really irritated and have registered a complaint in this regard,” he said.
“It is a job of some miscreants, who want to disturb and harass our men handling crucial night shifts,” the official said.
“We started getting these calls from the same girl sometime in November last year. We had then registered an FIR in this regard. The identity of the caller remained in the oblivion due to the unavailability of ‘caller line identification system’ at that time,” the official said.
He said the problem again cropped up nearly two months ago after a gap of four months.
“But now, we have got the identification system installed and the number has also been traced. Police are investigating the matter. We have not received significant input or details about the caller from police till now. We hope that the caller will soon be caught,” he said.
According to official data, the Fire Department has received nearly 750 crank calls till June this year as compared to 804 such calls in 2007-08.
