Woman sets herself, family on fire, two dead

Mumbai, April 28 A woman here set herself, her husband and three children ablaze early Monday following a domestic quarrel. The woman and her two-year-old daughter were charred to death, while the rest are battling serious burn injuries in hospital, police said.

The incident was triggered off after a quarrel between Jyoti Korde, 24, and her husband Dilip at their home in Mulund, northeast Mumbai, an official said.

At around 1 a.m., Jyoti poured kerosene on herself, her husband, two daughters Shubda and Nisha – aged two and five years respectively – and two-month-old son Survesh and set everybody ablaze.

While Jyoti and Shubda were burnt to death, 27-year-old Dilip and the other children were rushed to Mulund General Hospital with serious burn injuries.

While a case of suicide has been registered against Jyoti, the matter is being investigated further, police added.
