Washington, Sept 14: Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi seems to have impressed US with his developmental and progressive works in the state. A latest report by US’ Congressional Research Service (CRS) on India claimed that Modi has much more potentiality than Congress’ Rahul Gandhi to become the next Prime Minister of the country.
However, the report also claimed that Rahul also is a strong candidate for the post and the Congress is eyeing on a great prospect in the 2014 election. Yet the report did not mention whether 2014 election will be a Modi V/s Rahul affair.
“The 2009 polls may have represented a coming out party of sorts for the younger Gandhi, who many expect to be put forward as Congress’ prime ministerial candidate in scheduled 2014 elections,” says the report.
However, the report also praises Modi as claiming Modi as “India’s best example of effective governance and impressive development is found in Gujarat, where controversial Chief Minister Narendra Modi has streamlined economic processes, removing red tape and curtailing corruption in ways that have made the state a key driver of national economic growth”.
Stating about the BJP’s possible strategy during 2014 election about the Prime Ministerial candidate, the report says, “Yet among the party’s likely candidates for the prime ministership in future elections is Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who has overseen impressive development successes in his state, but who is also dogged by controversy over his alleged complicity in lethal anti-Muslim rioting there in 2002.”
