Govt ready to withdraw Lokpal Bill? Has Anna won battle?

New Delhi, Aug 24: The UPA government on Wednesday, Aug 24 finally said that it (government) will withdraw the Lokpal Bill which was tabled in the Parliament’s monsoon session on Aug 4, 2011. However, Manmohan Singh’s government posed condition on Anna Hazare demanding him (Hazare) to break his indefinite fast which entered ninth day on Wednesday.

On the same day, both the government and Team Anna have brought two new drafts regarding Lokpal Bill. the two groups met several times on Wednesday to break the impasse over the disputed anti-corruption bill. All party meeting also has been arranged at the Prime Minister’s residence on the same in the national capital.

Meanwhile, 74-year-old Gandhian crusader refuted Manmohan Singh’s demands to quit his (Hazare’s) fast and vowed that he (Anna) will continue his fast untill the government agrees to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill in the House.

Law Minister, Salman Khurshid stated, “A good bill can come 10-15 days later but a fast cannot be broken 20 days later. So if we look at the priorities of urgency, then the urgency that the fast must come to an end is far greater, more serious than the urgency to pass the bill.”
