Newly-wedded woman sedates in-laws, decamps with Rs.4 lakh

Ghaziabad, July 22 A 20-year-old newly-married woman allegedly sedated her in-laws and ran away with jewellery and cash worth Rs.4 lakh in Ghaziabad, police said. The girl’s parents say that she could have been murdered by her in-laws.

“Parveen Bano allegedly fled with cash and jewellery from her in-laws’ house after serving them tea laced with sedatives Monday night,” Superintendent of Police A.K. Vijeta said Wednesday.

Parveen Bano married Naushad, a resident of Sahibabad March 25 this year.

On Monday, her in-laws had gone to take her back from her parents’ house in Muzaffarnagar where she went a few days back.

The in-laws returned to their house at around 9.30 p.m. After dinner, Naushad’s mother headed to prepare tea upon which Parveen asked her to take rest and instead volunteered to prepare it herself.

“Minutes after consuming the tea, all of the six family member including Naushad, fell unconscious. In the meantime, Parveen took away jewellery worth Rs.3.50 lakh and Rs.50,000 cash from the house,” Vijeta said.

When Naushad’s elder brother Din Mohammad came to the house, he found all family members unconscious and Parveen missing from the house.

He rushed them to a hospital where they were said to be stable.

According to the police, some neighbours saw Parveen escaping from the house with some goods.

Police has registered a case against Parveen under Section 328 of the Indian Penal Code.

Parveen’s father Atgar said that he was unaware of her whereabouts and alleged she could have been murdered by her in-laws.
