Live-in partner arrested in 1st IAF woman Anjali Gupta suicide

Bhopal, Sep 13: Continuing their investigation in the suicide case of the first Indian Air Force (IAF) officer, Anjali Gupta, police on Tuesday, Sep 13 arrested Group Captain, Amit Gupta.

It has been reported that Amit was in a live-in relationship with Anjali and she committed suicide after being dejected by Amit who allegedly gave false marriage assurance to Anjali.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Rajesh Chandel said, “Amit was arrested under section 306 of the IPC (abetment to suicide) in connection with the suicide committed by Anjali at his residence here on September 11.”

However, Amit has so far rejected all allegations against him claiming that he knew Anjali only as his sub-ordinate and did not share any kind of personal relationship.

Anjali was found hanging in Amit’s residence on Monday, and reports suggest that she was in a relationship with another IAF officer. After the insulting court martial, Anjali was working in a private firm in Bengaluru. She stopped over to visit Amit Gupta at Bhopal on Sep 7 where she took the extreme step to commit suicide.

Anjali’s postmortem report, which has been declared on Tuesday, suggested that she she died of asphyxiation.
