Sullia, Karnataka Jun 28: A curious case of a young woman, already betrothed to be married on July 10, having eloped and married her lover has been reported from here.
Madhushri, daughter of Kayartodi Nagappa Gowda, and a boy from Beltangady were engaged and their marriage was to take place on July 10. The girls’ parents had bought gold and expensive clothings for the girl, made arrangements for a pendal at home and also distributed invitations to relatives and friends.
But she was secretly in love with one Harish, son of Subba Naik from Shantinagar here, who is employed in Bangalore.
She is said to have been unhappy with the choice of a match for her. She eloped with him on June 24 and got married to Harish the same day in Keshava Kripa and also got the marriage registered in the sub-registrar’s office here on June 25. They reportedly left for Bangalore the soon after.
The girl’s parents, upset over the whole episode, have filed a complaint about her disappearance to the police.
