Most wanted man in Australia arrested at Syndney airport

Sydney, Oct 11: One of most wanted man of Australia’s, Anthony Tan, the 27-year-old man has been arrested on Tuesday, Oct 11 at Sydney International Airport over a fatal gunfight in 2009.

The New South Wales police is likely to charge the man with murder after he returned to Sydney on a flight from Veitnam on Tuesday (Today) morning, as reported by Xinhua.

Police expect to charge the man with the murder of a Rebel bikie member and a Bosnian refugee, Edin Smajovic, 23, in Campbelltown, Sydney’s southwest on Jan 9, 2009. Soon after the murder, Tim left Australia and went to Vietnam as the country has no extradition treaty with Australia.

Detective Sergeant Keith Bristow told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that Tan contacted police through his lawyer recently and said he wanted to surrender himself. Tan was shocked after knowing that he had been added to New South Wales Police’s “most wanted” list and police were chasing him, which is why he voluntarily returned to Australia from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Tan’s bail plea is expected to be denied by a Sydney court where he will appear on later Tuesday (Today).
