Ahmedabad: A woman paid the price of spurning an autorickshaw driver’s advances with her life on Thursday. She was attacked and set ablaze by Arvind Dhula, the accused in Shahibaug for this reason. The victim sustained grievous burn injuries and Dhula has been arrested by Shahibaug police station officials.
According to police, a businessman living in Rajiv Apartment had hired Dhula for his day-to-day visits in city. At that time, Dhula met his wife and developed a liking for her.
“Arvind used to frequent the house and on several occasions, even have lunch at the flat. He then tried to make sexual advances on the victim when she was alone on Thursday afternoon. When she rejected his advances, an enraged Dhula returned with a petrol can and set her on fire. She got severe burns and has been admitted to the Civil Hospital,” said a police official. Nearby residents handed Arvind over to police on Thursday evening.
