CAG report on CWG: BJP protest

New Delhi, Aug 9: The protest against the government staged by BJP leaders and workers went violent both inside and outside the Parliament on Tuesday, Aug 9.

The main opposition party – Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held agitation over the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on CWG 2010 irregularities. The report indicted Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit over various scam during the Games.

While the BJP MPs hurled fresh attacks on the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh and Congress President, Sonia Gandhi along with Dikshit, the party workers engaged in a bloody battle with the police.

The youth wing of the party staged a protest rally in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar demanding resignation of the Delhi CM. When the cops tried to bar the agitators, BJP workers went violent against the police officials. The cops lathicharged on the party workers.

Senior BJP leader, Arun Jaitley also claimed, “The Commonwealth Games scam is too big a scandal for the buck to stop at one person (Kalmadi).”

Meanwhile, BJP leader Yashwanth Sinha also launched a veiled against Sports Minister, Ajay Maken of taking bribe the tainted former Jharkhan CM, Madhu Koda.

The BJP had embarked on a planned attempt to target Maken following his controversial remarks on CWG former Organizing Commitee Chief Suresh Kalmadi’s appointment. Maken’s suo motu statement on the CWG had hit a wrong note with the NDA that launched an attack focused on him in its aftermath.

Maken had also rejected the suggestion that Kalmadi’s appointment as the OC chairman led to the OC moving out of government control unlike that envisaged earlier. The both Houses of the Parliament witnessed stormy sessions with interrupted adjournments.
