Kolkata, March 25 A 24-year-old woman killed her two children, before committing suicide in a village in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, the police said Tuesday.
The incident took place at Iswaripur village under Falta police station in South 24 Parganas, on the outskirts of Kolkata.
Chandana Kayal, 24, slashed the throats of her two children – one-and-a-half-year-old Krishnendu and five-month-old Dalia – with a kitchen knife early Tuesday, before hanging herself to death at her residence at Iswaripur, a senior officer at Falta police station told media.
The officer said Kayal’s husband Samir works in Kolkata, where he stays the entire week, only coming home every Saturday and returning Sunday night.
Though Kayal lived with her in-laws, they had separate kitchens, the officer said, adding there was, however, no reports of any fights or domestic violence among the family members.
According to the officer, Kayal was beating Krishnendu for some reason Monday night, when her mother-in-law came and stopped her. “It seems she took it to heart and committed the crime. Or else, there is hardly a reason for such an incident,” the officer said.
