New Karnataka CM Gowda already in land scam?

Bangalore, Aug 4: After the much-hyped election of the Karnataka Chief Minister ended on Wednesday in a secret ballot, Sadananda Gowda was seen smiling ear to ear emerging the victor in the final lap. But looks like the laugh will not last long when Gowda is already facing allegations of being involved in a land scam.

After the BS Yeddyurappa camp was rejoicing after their choice of CM was voted in, Gowda is having to face the legal music for an alleged land scam that has named him. It was another land scam that ended the dream run for Gowda’s mentor, Yeddyurappa as well in the CM’s role. [Profile of Karnataka CM – Sadananda Gowda]

Gowda has been accused of constructing a commercial building in a residential plot in South Bangalore without the required consent from the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA). The BDA is believed to have allotted him a residential plot of 5000 sq feet in the HSR layout of south Bangalore in 2006. Another plot was allotted to a BJP MLA D.N. Jeevaraj adjoining Gowda’s plot in 2006 as well.

After an RTI plea by activist Shivakumar, it has emerged that Gowda joined hands with Jeevaraj and started construction of this building combining the two plots together without proper approval frm the BDA. Gowda had earlier approached the BDA in 2009 seeking to combine the plots but his plea was rejected.

Gowda did not take cognizance of the rejection and went ahead with the construction plans. The commercial building will have a basement car park and the first floor consisting of a shopping complex.

With the latest turn of events, looks like the path of Gowda’s chief ministerial career is going to be a rocky one.
