Custodial death: Oppn on road, JK CM Abdullah to quit?

Srinagar, Oct 5: Pressure on Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to table his resignation has been increasing day by day. The main opposition in the state, People Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday, Oct 5 showed a protest on the street in Srinagar demanding the CM’s resignation.

Marching from Sher-e-Kashmir Park towards Lal Chowk in Srinagar, PDP workers led by its chief Mehbooba Mufti raised anti-Abdullah slogans holding placards like – “unravel the mysterious death of Yousuf.”

Meanwhile, Mehbooba stated, “The man was eliminated only to hide the political misdeeds of the NC government. This could have exposed the ruling NC’s political corruption, which is to demand money for the ministerial berths and even for induction in to the legislative council.”

Here it can be recalled that 61-year-old Haji Yousuf was handed over to the Crime Branch by Omar Abdullah over alleged corruption and blackmailing charges. Yousuf was accused of taking bribes from two National Conference leaders with a promise to make them Minister and Member of Legislative Council.

Omar, earlier during a press conference, had informed that he would file a defamation case against those people who have raised “false murder allegations” against him.

However, Yousuf was found dead when he was allegedly in the police custody. Though later his postmortem report said that Yousuf died over heart attack.
