Patiala, Jul 13: The doctor, who maintained the role of a whistle-blower by unearthing the doping scam circulating among athletes, was brutally beaten up and assaulted.
The victim, Dr Sanjib Nandi went to meet Justice Mudgal, who is the head of the panel investigating the doping scandal, at the national sports campus in Patiala, Punjab.
“I have some documents that would aid the investigations but I was told that orders were not to let me in. I was then held by my hand and pushed away,” stated Nandi after beaten up by the security guards of the campus.
Nandi, who was the medical officer at National Institute of Sports (NIS), was reportedly revealed that substance abuse had become rampant in India’s premier sports training facility. It has also been reported that Nandi has been left without salary since 2005.
Recently, two year ban was slapped on Gold medalist Sini Jose, Tiana Mary Thomas and Jauna Murumu who were found guilty of taking anabolic steroids. Juana and Sini were tested positive for methandienone and there were traces of epimethandiol in Tiana’s urine sample.
