Now, Anna to fast to change Indian Electoral system?

New Delhi, Aug 28: After a long 288 hours, Anna Hazare finally broke his indefinite fast for a strong Lokpal Bill on a cheerful Sunday (Aug 28) morning. But many started speculating that the 74-year-old Gandhian crusader soon may take his non-violence weapon – “fasting”. However, this time his (Anna’s) fight will not be for Lokpal but it will be to change India’s electoral system.

After ending his fast with coconut water and honey, Anna claimed, “We have to change the election system.” As Anna reiterated, “my fight will continue,” it seems that he (Anna) may take the weapon once again to battle with the government and the existing electoral system.

Pointing at people’s disappointment with the old electoral system, the Gandhian said, “When people say they don’t like the electoral candidates, they should be able to vote for none.”

“The election should be null and void if majority vote for none. People should have a right to say they do not support any party,” demanded Anna.

Ahead of the breaking of fast, vocal civil society member and key player of Team Anna, Arvind Kejriwal delivered a spirited speech thanking all concerned who made the protest a successful endeavour. He commented, “Indians across the world participated. We thank them. It’s a historic moment for India. I thank the MPs.” He has also called for a victory march at the India Gate on Sunday at 6pm.

Deviating from the earlier plans, Anna Hazare will head straight to Medanta Medicity in Gurgaon. He had earlier planned to visit the Rajghat, but taking into consideration his fragile health conditions, he decided to head to hospital.
