Jaipur, Aug 19: Is a girl child still a curse in most of Indian families? This has been proved when a 30-year-old depressed father committed suicide by jumping into Chambal river in Kota over the birth of his fourth daughter in a row.
According to the police, the deceased, Ranjeet Kumar, was a resident of Ladpura in Nayapura police station area of Kota. Ranjeet was depressed after his wife gave birth to a girl child. Minutes after the birth at a hospital, he went missing and later his body was found floating in the river on Wednesday, Aug 17.
“Ranjeet already had three daughters and used to say that he would get a son this time,” said a police officer. He added that his wife was admitted at a hospital on Tuesday for child birth. “He was in the hospital till the daughter was born. As soon as the hospital staff told him about the girl child’s birth, he started weeping and went missing,” said an officer.
The officer said that the police are taking the statement of family members. “Prime facie, the birth of fourth daughter seems to be the reason behind his taking the extreme step. Further investigation is going on,” said the officer.
