RAJKOT: A 19-year-old man was thrashed and dumped in an unconscious state on Friday late evening by his lover’s kin, who had got an inkling of their plan to elope and marry. The four accused have been booked by the police.
Officials of B-division police station said, Hitesh Rathod, a resident of Bansari Park on Mavdi Road, was severely beaten and later dumped in a farm near Ratanpur village. When Rathod regained consciousness, he walked to the highway and with help of a passer-by, called an ambulance.
According to a plaint filed by Rathod, he had decided to marry Vaishali Phulzariya of Morbi. Rathod and Vaishali were classmates but fell in love only two years ago when the two met each other accidently. A week ago they decided to register their marriage against the wish of their families for which Rathod called Vaishali to the city on Friday.
Rathod was waiting for her on Rajkot-Morbi road when Vaishali’s father Jashmat Phulzariya, mother Viju, brother Kalpesh and cousin Pankaj, who had followed Vaishali to the city, assaulted him and took him away forcibly to Ratanpur village.
B-division police official, Dolatsinh Solanki, said, “We received a report of an injured person from the hospital late in the evening and registered the plaint. We have started a search for the four family members of Vaishali and will nab them soon,” he said. Police have registered a case against the four under Sections 147,149, 365, 384 and 188 of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
