New Delhi, Sep 27: Baba Ramdev has decided to file a case against the Delhi Police and home minister, P Chidambaram over the death of his supporter Rajbala.
Rajabala a supporter of the yoga guru suffered spinal injuries during a police crackdown at the Ramlila Maidan during Baba Ramdev’s fight against Black money and was hospitalised since then. She succumbed to her injuries on Sep 26.
Several days after Rajabala was admitted to the GB Pant Hospital, she slipped into coma and never recovered.
“Her sacrifice will not go in vein… Millions of her brothers and sisters will continue to fight for corruption-free India,” said Baba Ramdev in a statement after her death.
Ram Jethmalani, Ramdev’s advocate in a statement said that a suit will be filed against the Home Minister and the Delhi police soon.
Sushma Swaraj, BJP leader also condemned the death of the 50-year-old expressing her anger in a tweet.
“After oscillating between life and death for 15 weeks, Rajbala died on Monday morning. It is a sad commentary on our police functioning….I demand that a murder case be registered against Delhi police and the guilty must be punished,” read her tweet.
Rajbala was seriously injured in the police lathi-charge that took place on Jun 6 which left many of the Ramdev supporters injured. She was admitted to the ICU.
The victim had undergone a cervical joint replacement surgery on Jun 6. It was on her insistence that she went to support Baba Ramdev’s cause despite her family’s pressure that she leave the venue at midnight. She was injured when police stormed into the venue and lathi-charged people.
Meanwhile, Delhi police claimed that Rajbala was injured after she got stuck in a stampede during the crackdown.
