Techie held for raping wife

Hyderabad: The Kanchanbagh police on Monday arrested a software engineer on charges of raping his wife after giving her sleeping pills at their residence in Nanalnagar, Madannapet.
According to the police, Mohammed Saleemuddin — who returned to Hyderabad from Australia a few weeks ago after completing an IT course — allegedly raped his wife with his friend Chand. The techie’s mother, Noorjahan, was also arrested for conspiring with the two men, Kanchanbagh Inspector N Shankar said. She told the victim that it was the duty of a woman to obey her husband’s orders, the Inspector said.

Shankar said Saleemddin married the woman last February. Two months after the marriage, he went to London and from there to Australia to pursue a course in IT. He recently landed a job with a company in Australia.

Saleemuddin allegedly used to force his wife to be naked during video calls. Saleemuddin allegedly shared the videos with his friends. He used to make free video calls through IMO mobile app, the police said.

Realising Saleemuddin was exploiting her, the woman went to her parents’ house in Babanagar, Kanchanbagh, two days ago and lodged a complaint with the Kanchanbagh police. The police registered a case against Saleemuddin under Sections 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 376 (punishment for rape) and Section 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the IPC. His mother Noorjahan was booked under Section 120B (Criminal conspiracy), the Inspector said.
Chand, a jewellery businessman, is at large.
