Woman constable beaten up by senior at police headquarters

High drama was witnessed on the fifth floor of the Punjab Police Headquarters building in Sector 9 when a 39-year-old woman constable with the Punjab Intelligence Wing was allegedly dragged and assaulted by one of her senior male colleagues.
The incident took place in full public view and constable Gurdarshan Kaur was rescued only after her colleagues intervened.
A departmental inquiry has been marked and errant officer Sub-Inspector Sarjeevan Singh has been suspended.
The accused was appointed in the Intelligence Wing on deputation for seven months.
Kaur accused Singh of dragging her by hair and banging her head on a wall. She said the S-I also kicked her in the stomach.
She added that personnel from the Sector-3 police station failed to reach the hospital in time. Kaur said she had earlier filed a complaint against the errant S-I with her senior officers.
SHO of Sector-3 police station Inspector Har Sahai Sharma said a daily diary report has been lodged and a criminal case would be registered only after getting Kaur’s medical report from the hospital.
