Navi Mumbai: A mother-daughter duo was arrested for murder of woman

NAVI MUMBAI: A mother-daughter duo was arrested from Shahbaz village, Belapur for the of a 33-year-old woman from Goregaon. The victim’s husband, who is an autorickshaw driver, was earlier married to the accused woman (42), and was the father of the accused daughter (21).

The accused duo, along with an accomplice, had picked up the victim at Mansarovar on the evening of February 23 in an auto. They stabbed her 32 times and dumped her body in the debris at the forest area at Taki village, Chirner, Uran. The police are yet to arrest the third accused (25), who is the accused daughter’s friend.

The murder victim had married the 42-year-old accused’s first husband five years ago, and they had no children. She had a son from her first husband, who was an alcoholic and had deserted her.

The victim had been living with her husband at Kamothe, and was employed at Bal Ashram, Sandhurst Road, said inspector (crime) Atul Aher of Uran police station. He added that the victim’s cousin brother had identified her and helped them track her husband down.
A forensic expert from the Panvel sub-divisional hospital said that victim’s body had 32 stab wounds. He added that it seemed like a single weapon had been used to commit the crime.

The police said that the accused and the victim frequently argued. Aher said that the victim’s husband had been spending money on her, which led to the two wives arguing. According to police sources, the accused daughter was in a relationship with the third accused, who is absconding.
A case of murder and disappearance of evidence has been lodged against three people, said senior inspector Jagdish Kulkarni of Uran police station.
Uran police requested that the names of the accused not be revealed, so the murder investigation is not hampered. The two accused were remanded to police custody for six days.
