Baba Ramdev smiling, police crying? SC slams cops

New Delhi, Aug 29: The Supreme Court on Monday, Aug 29 blamed Delhi police over the eviction of Baba Ramdev from Ramlila Maidan on Jun 5, 2011.

Earlier the apex court had asked the cops to file suo moto cognizance of the brutality on innocent supporters of Ramdev. However, the police was adamant and justified their stand saying that Baba Ramdev used the protest stage to instigate supporters and they had acted in retaliation after the assembled supporters started pelting stones at them.

Later, the yoga-guru also hurled an attack on the union home minister, P Chidambaram over the police “atrocities” on Baba and his followers.

Ramdev accused Chidambaram of sending Delhi police at the midnight to forcefully remove him (Ramdev) from the national capital.

The yoga guru held a hunger strike in Delhi demanding black money stashed abroad to be brought back. He (Ramdev) was booted out from the capital after police attacked the Baba and his followers at Ramlila Maidan on Jun 4. Baba’s fast ended with the late night lathi-charge, tear-gassing, and the arrest of the yoga icon in disguise of a woman.
